The Better Business Bureau of East AL, West and Southwest GA has recently experienced a high volume of inquiries in regards to “Door to Door” solicitations for Home Security systems. The BBB is cautioning home owners to beware of “high-pressured or fear-sales practices.” The individuals are said to be using recent police reports of area home burglaries as a sale’s tool. The Better Business Bureau reminds residents that:
1. You do not have to let any person into your home. If you’re not interested, say goodbye and shut the door.
2. Solicitors should be able to provide credentials of who they are and the firm they represent. They should be wearing some sort of name badge or uniform.
3. Don’t be afraid to interrupt and ask questions.
4. Read all contracts before signing. A legitimate firm will allow you time to investigate their offer.
5. If you already have a home security provider, check with them to seem if they have the same system for a comparable price and be sure that you will not be obligated for two service contracts.
6. Check the company out with your Better Business Bureau.
7. Remember your right to cancel a contract signed in your home within 72 hours.
8. If you do not have a current home security provider, be careful about making this known to the solicitors.
Contact your local Better Business Bureau if you have any questions.
